The a2 mag gives that extended but soft/warm highs that help combat the shrillness that is present in single coil pickups. I use them in the mid and neck of my strat. I, too, was concerned about the sometimes reported sharpness or shrillness, but I'm happy to say I didn't find them that way at all.
