It is a plaster manufactured for trowel application, considered as a basecoat over the gypsum or metal lath. You can pick it to use on the surface of bathroom wall plaster as well.

I either coat with lime (the proper three coat, which matches what's there, where appearance is important) or just use the double backed structolite as the finish surface. You can get structolite really flat, and for many surfaces, that's good enough. If your matching texture, it's not. Since the inside walls are plaster, I think you could go with Structolite base coat over the prepped brick, then finish coat with slow-set gauging plaster/lime putty. Or maybe Structolite base with durabond finish. But don't hold me to that.
WebJun 24, 2016 · The bucket of finish coat is set off from the base coat by its gray lid. But the real difference is in the consistency of the material. Just like the other material, it needs to be mixed before use, but the mixing is much easier because it's so much looser.

I have done mud work of this type on tile shower walls with mortar mix & lime in the past.
